Japan. After the outbreak of avian influenza was confirmed in Japan’s southern prefecture of Kagoshima, about 14 thousand birds have been killed here. Local officials gave this information on Monday.
Bird flu has been confirmed at a poultry farm in Minamisatsuma city, Kagoshima, according to the prefectural government. He said that culling of birds in this poultry farm and other nearby farms under the same management was completed within a short time. Burial of killed birds and disinfection of poultry farm houses are likely to be completed within the next few days and national authorities are expected to determine whether the virus is highly pathogenic.
To prevent further spread of the infection, the province has banned the movement of about 363,000 chickens and quails raised on 15 farms within a radius of three kilometers to 10 kilometers from the affected area. After genetic testing was done to confirm the virus, provincial officials began the process of culling the bird on Sunday.
The case marks the ninth avian influenza outbreak in the country this season. Bird flu season in Japan typically begins in October each year. Last season, Japan saw a record 84 outbreaks of highly pathogenic bird flu on farms in 26 of the country’s 47 prefectures, killing a record 17 million birds, causing egg shortages and sending prices soaring. .
