In the case of violence in Allahabad University, the police has registered a case on behalf of both parties. On December 19, violent clashes broke out between students and security guards on the university campus. In the clash, where the students had alleged that the security guards lathi-charged and fired, on the other hand, the university administration had accused the students of anarchy.
In this case, on behalf of the aggrieved students, a case has been registered against Vivekanand Pathak, a former student and leader of the National Student Union of India, under relevant sections at the Colonelganj police station in Prayagraj. According to police sources, three named and 40 unidentified guards This case has been written.
On the other hand, in the case filed against the security guards, a case has been registered against eight students including former student leader Vivekanand Pathak under serious sections.
It has been alleged in Tahrir that the students abused and assaulted the security personnel. Later, when the dispute escalated, stones were also pelted on them and four to five vehicles present in the university campus were set on fire and 10 to 12 vehicles were vandalized by the students.
Dr. Richa Singh, former student union president of Allahabad University, said that “A cross FIR has been lodged against the students, due to which the students are angry. A case under serious sections has been registered against those who were attacked with murder. The university administration is not talking. The administration should talk to the students, and why is there a need for police and administration.”
On the question of external chaotic elements entering the university, Richa further said that the university has a big boundary all around, and there is no question of anyone entering from outside.
He further told that the cases filed by the university against the students should be withdrawn. And there are responsible officials of the university, action should be taken against them. Students should be talked to and action should be taken against the guilty guards.
Many videos of the violent incident in Allahabad University are also viral on social media. Where in a video security personnel are seen beating up student leader Vivekananda Pathak, the anarchy of the students has also been captured on camera. The local police have started investigation in both the cases registered in the incident but no arrest has been made so far.
For the last several months, there has been a tussle between the university administration and the students due to the 400% fee hike strike. While the agitating students are mobilizing for the fee hike, on the other hand the university administration is also adamant on its decision. The echo of this matter echoed in the Parliament recently when Congress leader Imran Pratapgarhi placed before the Upper House the issue of alleged harassment of students due to agitation and fee hike in Allahabad University. Taking the side of the students, Pratapgarhi said in the Rajya Sabha that Allahabad University, formerly known as Oxford, is being trampled under the boots of the police.
