At least 25 children studying in a government school in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai district fell ill after consuming the mid-day meal. The incident is of Municipal Primary School in Kadiri town of the district. Affected students complained of vomiting and upset stomach. Initially eight students were admitted to Government Hospital Kadiri. Later 17 more students were taken to the hospital.
District Education Officer S. V. Krishna Reddy visited the hospital and met the students. He has described the condition of the students as stable. He said that the students fell ill due to the poor quality food being served. The officer assured appropriate action against those who were negligent in the investigation.

Interestingly, a new menu called Jagannath Gorumudda was introduced on 21 November under the mid-day meal scheme. The government had changed the menu for the fitness of the students. Officials said that students studying in government and aided schools are being provided with better nutritious food than before.
