London. More than 70,000 employees of 150 universities in the UK will strike for 18 days between February and March over an attack on salaries and pensions. The University and College Union (UCU) made the announcement on Thursday.
The UCU announced on its website that more than 70,000 staff at 150 universities across the UK would strike for 18 days between February and March in disputes over pay, conditions and pension strikes.
The union demanded action to end the use of insecure contracts as well as wage increases to deal with the living wage crisis.
The Universities and Colleges Employers’ Association (UCEA) made an offer to UCU on Wednesday to raise staff wages by between four and five per cent, but the union said the offer was not sufficient. The union is also demanding cancellation of employer deductions and reinstatement of benefits. According to the announcement, the exact dates of the strike will be told next week.
