Melbourne. Gerald Ridsdale, 89, a former priest in Australia, has also been found guilty in the 72nd charge of child abuse. He is serving 39 years in prison since 1994. If a new offense is proved, his sentence can be further increased. Gerald sexually abused a large number of children who attended his church and school from 1961 to 1988.
Gerald, who was a priest in the Roman Catholic Church of the State of Victoria, had created an uproar in the whole country after several cases of misdeeds came to the fore. He cannot get out of bed at this time, he is kept in the prison hospital. The local Ballarat magistrate’s court completed the hearing of the 72nd case through video conferencing. The 1987 case pertains to Horsham School, 300 km from Melbourne, where he sexually abused a 13-year-old boy while he was an assistant chaplain. Following the latest conviction, Gerald will be sentenced for his 193rd offense. He will be brought to court on August 15 for sentencing.
