The Central Government has approved Bharat Biotech’s Nasal vaccine amidst increasing cases of Coronavirus worldwide. This vaccine can be used as a booster dose. Initially, the nasal vaccine will be available in private hospitals. This vaccine is given by spraying through the nose. That is, in this the vaccine is not applied on the arm of the person taking the vaccine. DCGI has approved intranasal covid vaccine for people above 18 years. The name of this vaccine of Bharat Biotech is BBV154.
Government has included Nasal vaccine in India’s Covid 19 vaccination program from today itself. Earlier, the Drug Controller General of India, DCGI, had approved the emergency use of Nasal Covid vaccine. The price of the vaccine will be decided soon and it will be made available in government hospitals along with private hospitals.
This vaccine will also be listed on the CoWin portal. Currently Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, Serum Institute’s Covishield and Covax, Russian Sputink V and Biological E Limited’s Corbevax are listed on the Covin portal.
The company claims that this spray, when sprayed on the nasal mucus, creates a physical and chemical barrier against the virus. After its use, the infection does not reach the lungs. The company claims that this spray is completely safe and effective against corona. The company also says that no side effects were revealed during the trial.
