Beijing. China on Tuesday suspended visas for South Koreans visiting the country for tourism or business in protest against Seoul’s mandatory COVID-19 tests for travelers to the country.
A brief notice posted online by the Chinese embassy in Seoul said the ban would remain in effect until South Korea lifted “its discriminatory measures on the entry of Chinese people” into the country.
No other details were given in this regard, although China has threatened to retaliate against countries that have required Chinese travelers to show a negative report of the Covid-19 test within the last 48 hours. The World Health Organization (WHO) has accused China of hiding figures during the pandemic. Significantly, after the lifting of restrictions in China, there is news of a rapid increase in the cases of Covid pandemic.
