The US Coast Guard claims that the origin of the detected noises is still unknown during the rescue work of the Titan submersible that was going to explore the remains of the legendary Titanic ocean liner.
It was during the early hours of this Wednesday that a P-8 aircraft of the Canadian armed forces detected possible noises and inaccurate sounds in the area where the search is carried out in the Atlantic Ocean.
“I can’t tell you what the sounds are from, but I can I can say is that we are looking for where the noises have occurred“Commented Jamie Frederick, captain of the United States Coast Guard.
In a new press conference, the US authorities specified that, at the time these sounds were detected, the rescue operations were carried out with ROV vehicles, a kind of remotely controlled underwater drones that were provided by France.
After describing that these noises are like “sounds of knocking”Jamie Frederick stated that the ocean is a “very complex” place, with human and nature sounds, making it very difficult to discern the origin of those noises.
Frederick commented that the search takes place in an area that is twice the area of the state of Connecticut (USA)which is 13,023 square kilometers, and develops about 4 kilometers.
The head of the Coast Guard said that the teams have expanded the search area “exponentially”, that it extends “every hour”, and that it is a “100% search and rescue mission”.
The search operations for the Titan, which disappeared last Sunday, June 18, takes place 1,448 kilometers from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, USA) and about 644 kilometers from San Juan de Newfoundland (Canada).
In it, troops and resources from the United States, Canada, France and the United Kingdom participate, with planes, boats and underwater drones.
