The Argentine authorities have declared a red alert for extreme heat in part of four provinces in the north of the country, where maximum temperatures of 41ºC are expected.
The alert affects part of the provinces of Salta, Chaco, Formosa and the northwest of Corrientes, while an orange level is in force in Mesopotamia and Santa Fe, as reported by the National Meteorological Service (SMN) in a statement collected by the agency. telam.
Specifically, the affected areas are Yungas de Oran, Iruya, Santa Victoria, General José de San Martin and Rivadavia, in the northeast of Salta; northwest of Almirante Brown and General Güemes, in Chaco; Bermejo, Ramajo and Ramón Lista y Patiño, in Formosa.
The red alerts also apply to the Corrientes regions of the Capital, Berón de Astrada, Empedrado, General Paz, Itatí, Mburucuyá, Saladas, San Cosme and San Luis del Palmar.
The SMN recommends that the population of these areas stay hydrated, avoid physical activity and wear light clothing, with special attention to vulnerable populations, such as the elderly.
