Karachi: Cyclone Biparjoy, which remained in the Arabian Sea for a long time, has now taken its aggressive stand in many countries. Especially in different states of India and Pakistan, its big impact is being seen. If we talk about India’s neighboring country Pakistan, then Cyclone Biparjoy can cause great devastation in Pakistan.
Biparjoy is expected to hit India’s Gujarat Port and Pakistan’s Karachi Port on June 15. The Meteorological Department (PMD) of Pakistan has also issued an alert and the Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of incidents like cloudburst in Karachi. Due to this emergency has been declared in Sindh province. Army has been deployed and people living in low-lying areas are being rescued and sent to a safer place.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said on Monday that the intensity and severity of Biparjoy is intact. It is expected to make landfall on June 15. Along with some parts of Karachi and Balochistan, it is expected to wreak havoc in Sindh as well. The Sindh government has taken several major steps to save the people from the growing crisis in the southern parts of the province.
Sindh province Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that 32,466 people in Sujawal, Badin and Thatta districts, as well as people in about 70 buildings, were in the grip of the cyclonic storm. All these are being taken to safe places. He said that he is not appealing to the people but is also asking them to vacate their houses. Alert has been issued through social media, mosques and radio stations.
According to the PMD alert, the extremely severe cyclonic storm that formed over the east-central Arabian Sea on Monday has moved north-northwestwards during the last 24 hours. On Monday night, it was about 550 km south of Karachi, 530 km south of Thatta and 650 km southeast of Ormara.
According to the news published in Pakistan’s Dawn, Chief Meteorologist Dr. Sardar Sarfaraz said, ‘While a large mass of the cyclonic storm is likely to hit the Kutch region of Indian Gujarat, its outer periphery is expected to cross lower Sindh.’
On the other hand, heavy to very heavy rain with strong winds, dust storm and thunder is expected in Lower Sindh, especially in Sujawal, Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar and Umerkot districts from Tuesday. According to the recent alert issued by the department, the maximum speed of continuous surface winds generated by the cyclone is around 140-150 kmph, which can go up to 170 kmph.
CM visits KT port
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah visited the KT port to review the arrangements ahead of the possible landfall of the storm. The government is taking all possible measures to shift the vulnerable people to more secure areas.
Sindh CM holds meetings with concerned stakeholders
He said that meetings have been held with all concerned stakeholders for evacuation and setting up of control rooms from Ibrahim Hydari, Rehri Goth, Lath Basti, Chashma Goth and other areas. During the meeting, commissioner Hyderabad Bilal Memon said that out of 41 sensitive spots, 23 are located in Jati, 10 in taluka Shah Bunder and eight in Kharo Chan. It was informed in the meeting that 105 villages, 9,194 houses, 53,522 people and 6,120 livestock in these three taluks are in a vulnerable condition.
