The arrival of the series The Last of Us in France was more than compromised, but since January 16, we can already enjoy the first episode at no additional cost on Amazon Prime Video. On the first day of its broadcast, the production received praise from many media – we plead guilty – but also from spectators who came in large numbers to attend this introduction.
On the networks, the series received a flood of compliments in terms of its actors, sets, gripping story, and overall vibe. Long an hour and a half, the pilot was able to seduce players who are fans of the Naughty Dog franchise, but not only! A whole new audience is now interested in the lives of Joel and Ellie and didn’t need to test video games to get hooked on the universe.
However, this is not the case for everyone and many are asking the following question: should we start with the games before starting the series? Will I understand everything if I don’t play it? The answer will please you, we explain.
The same plot
Aficionados already know this, but Neil Druckmann, who created the video game franchise, also worked on the writing of the series along with its director, Craig Mazin. After seeing the trailers but also the first episode, we can assure you, the story is exactly like that of video gamesin outline but also in a lot of detail.
Taking the joystick is therefore absolutely not necessary. The producers have already confirmed that the first season will follow the narrative of the first game, and that the same will be true for the second season which will follow the plot of The Last of Us Part II, Few years later. Nevertheless, playing video games, before or after watching the series, can bring you a very useful experience.
When you throw The Last of Us on PS4 or PS5, you take an active part in discovering the story. You have to kill the zombies, infiltrate and you live the highlights like a real video game character. The immersion is therefore much more important and doing this experience will certainly allow you to be more attached to the characters.
But nothing is mandatory, and whether you choose to watch only the series or only play the games, you will have the same information and certainly the same final feeling. Count only 15 hours for the game against a little more than 8 hours of investment for the series.
