Went. No tsunami warning has been issued. Earthquakes are common in Indonesia because it is located in a seismically active region. Indonesia, in Southeast Asia, lies in the so-called ‘Pacific Ring of Fire’, a highly active seismic zone where different plates on the Earth’s crust meet and generate a large number of earthquakes and volcanoes.
Muhari said the quake damaged at least 93 houses as well as other buildings in Yogyakarta and its neighboring provinces of Central Java and East Java. He said that schools, health centres, places of worship and government offices have been damaged due to the earthquake.
