An escape slide on a Delta flight from New York to Los Angeles suddenly inflated inside the plane after it made an unexpected landing in Salt Lake City, Utah, due to technical problems.
According to a Delta spokesperson, Delta Flight 520 operating from New York to Los Angeles had to be diverted to Salt Lake City due to a maintenance issue. While on the ground, the slide on the same plane accidentally deployed.
According to the New York Post, the plane initially landed and all 168 passengers disembarked and then reboarded without issue.. However, just at that moment, the emergency exit slide was accidentally deployed inside the aircraft while it was still at the gate.
For its part, ABC News released statements by passenger Fiona Kane, who confessed that the moment “It was super chaotic and they didn’t really tell us what happened. I had no idea it was the slide that unfolded“,
“It seemed that the plane completely collapsed. All the passengers were kind of in a state of fear and confusion and the flight attendants didn’t really know what was going on either,” she confessed.
The injured crew member was taken to a hospital, from where he was later released.
Meanwhile, the company said that “in an effort to get our customers to their final destination as quickly and safely as possible, they were reaccommodated on a new aircraft. We apologize for the delay in your travel plans. Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people.”
