Male. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar reached Maldives on Wednesday on an official visit. During his visit, Jaishankar will take stock of the impact of developmental assistance given to Maldives through the reliable bilateral partnership between the two countries. Jaishankar is on a three-day visit to Maldives and Sri Lanka. Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid accorded a traditional welcome to Jaishankar at the airport here.
Shahid tweeted, “Indian External Affairs Minister’s visit. Welcome to Maldives my dear friend Dr S Jaishankar. This time in the northernmost atoll, he will see the impact of developmental assistance provided through the always trusted Maldives-India partnership.
He also shared some pictures on Twitter. Jaishankar thanked Abdullah Shahid for warmly welcoming him and said that he was very happy to be here. Jaishankar tweeted, “Extremely happy to be here for my 4th visit to Maldives as External Affairs Minister. Thanks to Abdulla Shahid, Foreign Minister of Maldives for the warm welcome. India’s ‘Neighbour First’ and Maldives’ ‘India First’ policies are getting better.
When Jaishankar reached Manadhu in Maldives, he was welcomed in the traditional way of the country. In Maldives, Jaishankar will sign several agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation. He will meet President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and hold discussions with Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid. The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday that during Jaishankar’s visit to Male, agreements related to bilateral development cooperation as well as foundation laying, inauguration and signing of several major India-supported projects will be held. This will contribute to the socio-economic development of Maldives.
