Washington. Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘global leader’. He said that the big challenge for India and America is how to deal with China. Speaking to the media on Prime Minister Modi’s first state visit to the United States, Bolton said that ‘trade relations’ is something the two leaders will definitely discuss as a lot of American and foreign companies are based in China. Opening up our supply chains.
The former National Security Advisor said, “As a leader of India, he (PM Modi) is definitely a global leader. He has strong opinions on a lot of topics, I think one of the topics that will be discussed here in Washington will be the trade relationship between the two countries. India’s influence will be not only in the context of the WTO, but more broadly on the economic side of international affairs.”
John Bolton also highlighted India’s potential as an attractive option for American and other foreign companies and said that closer ties between India and the US can bring significant benefits to both countries. He said, “I think and as Americans see, India has a lot of opportunity, Japanese and European companies are opening their supply chains in China, where there is no additional commitment but it seems that India is a very Can offer attractive places they might consider visiting. Having access to the millions of English speaking people in India is a great progress for India and therefore certainly a real area of collaboration between India and the US and can bring enormous benefits to both countries.”
Speaking on China, Bolton said that it is trying to intimidate countries bordering the Pacific and India with its ‘hegemonic aspirations’. He said, “I think the biggest challenge before India and the United States is how to deal with China. I think the same view across party lines in the United States is fairly consistent that China with its hegemonic aspirations is a major threat to the US and its friends and allies not only in Asia, but beyond and around the world ”
Bolton said that much of the plan of action to deal with China would depend on how countries in that region coordinate with countries outside the region to deal with it. He said that in such a complicated situation, the two most important countries are India and America. “I think India’s interests lie in a closer relationship with the United States and I hope that is the approach that Prime Minister Modi increasingly embraces,” Bolton said.
