In the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, major decisions have been taken for the poor and farmers. The cabinet has now extended the free ration scheme for one year. Now till December 31, 2023, food grains will be available for free. Under the National Food Security Act, food grains will be available free of cost to the poor.
Union ministers Anurag Thakur and Piyush Goyal informed about the decisions of the cabinet meeting. Piyush Goyal said, under Food Security Annadata Yojana, 81.35 crore people will get 35 kg food grains for free. Rest of the people used to get 5 kg food grains at subsidized rates, they will be provided free of cost. The central government will bear the entire cost of free food grains. Rs 2 lakh crore will be spent on food subsidy. Nothing will be taken from the poor.
