Eight members of a family, including five minors, were found dead of gunshot wounds Wednesday at an Enoch home, in southern Utah. It is not believed that there was an active shooter who posed a danger to the community.
The local authorities had not provided until Wednesday night details about the author or authors of the shooting or possible reasons for it. Neither had they identified the victims nor revealed their ages, but it is known that there were three adults and five minors.
But it was reported in a statement from Enoch authorities that The atrocious discovery occurred when the Police were conducting a search of the house to make sure everything was okay.
According to an AP report, Iron County School District officials informed the students’ parents that the five minors were school students and mental help from professionals was offered to students and their parents.
“We all know this family. Many of us have been with them at church, in the community, and gone to schools with these individuals. Enoch City Manager Rob Dotson said in a statement.
Salt Lake City’s KSLTV reported that the father of the family was an insurance agent, but that his wife recently filed for divorce, according to court documents.
The governor of the state, Spencer J. Cox, lamented the tragedy via Twitter: “Our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless violence.”
Enoch is a small town in a rural area 245 miles south of Salt Lake City.
