A senior professor of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been arrested by the Cyberabad police on charges of molesting a foreign student. After this matter came to light, the students of the university are protesting demanding the safety of girls in the campus.
What is the matter? According to the report of The Indian Express, the accused professor had called the foreign student to his house on Friday, 1 December, on the pretext of giving him a book. The professor’s house is near the university campus. According to the complainant, the professor was alone at home, asked the student to drink alcohol and tried to take advantage of the situation.
Madhapur DCP, K Shilpavalli told the publication that the student has lodged a police complaint with the help of another university professor. The DCP said, “The professor called the student home on the pretext of giving him a book. He offered him liquor, but the student resisted. There was no one else at home. We are probing the matter.”

Student Union protest: After the matter came to light, the student union of the university is protesting in front of the main gate of the campus. The union alleges that this is a case of sexual harassment, however, the police is calling it a case of molestation.
The union said, “Despite the seriousness of the matter, the registrar ignored all calls and preferred to sleep peacefully at his home, while the student community rallied throughout the night in support of the survivor. There was a deliberate delay by the concerned authorities.”
