New Delhi. Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that he will continue to fight for the rule of law in the country and will not compromise even if the government puts him in jail. Nor will he surrender. Addressing the nation via YouTube on Sunday evening, Khan said his fight was for a better future for his country and its people. Imran Khan said, “Even if they put me in jail, I will neither compromise nor surrender. I will continue to fight for the rule of law and a better future for the people of my country.”
The 70-year-old chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party arrived in Islamabad from Lahore on Monday to request for extension of his anticipatory bail in 19 cases. Khan is facing over 140 cases. Most of the cases are related to terrorism, incitement of public to violence, arson, blasphemy, attempt to murder, corruption and cheating.
Meanwhile, a police official said police in Lahore arrested 30 PTI workers, including former football player Shumaila Sattar, on Sunday for trying to meet Khan at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore. Sattar is a former member of the national women’s football team. The official said a senior lawyer, who filed petitions against trials of civilians in military courts, was abducted after meeting Khan in Lahore.
Lahore police said Sattar was arrested in connection with the May 9 attack on the Corps Commander’s House in Lahore. Police said they were identified through geo-fencing and sent to jail on judicial remand. Khan also said that senior Supreme Court advocate Aziz Bhandari was abducted (by agencies) when he met him at his Zaman Park residence.
He said advocate Bhandari had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the trial of civilians in military courts. Khan said, “It is a complete martial law in the country.” Thirty PTI workers, released from jail in connection with the May 9 violence, wanted to meet Khan and have been re-arrested under the Public Disorder Act.
