After this, the police is continuously telling that this death was not due to custodial death but due to heart attack. But now the report of the post mortem of the dead body has come out in which many revelations have been made.
In the murder in which Kanpur police of Uttar Pradesh was trying to prove that death was due to heart attack, there have been many revelations after the postmortem of the dead body. The post-mortem report of Balwant Singh, who was allegedly subjected to torture during interrogation at the Shivli police station in Kanpur, has injury marks at 31 places, which narrates the story of police brutality.

Talking about the post-mortem report, most of the injuries on Balwant Singh’s body are on hands, legs, hip and waist. Some injury marks are also on the face. According to the report, the injuries that have occurred show that the person has been beaten with something solid or hard.
In cases of custodial torture, it is generally seen that the police continuously hit one place with sticks and straps, due to which that part of the body turns blue. The cause of death in the report is Anti mortem injury.
What is the whole matter?
On December 6, 2022, under Rania police station of Kanpur, Saraf Chandrabhan Singh was robbed by three unknown bike riders. The police of Shivli police station probing the incident and the team Special Operation Group formed under the Superintendent of Police arrested Balwant Singh, the 30-year-old nephew of the alleged victim Saraf Chandrabhan Singh, on December 12, bringing them to the police station on suspicion.
The relatives of the deceased Balwant Singh allege that there the police beat Balwant badly, after which his health deteriorated. He died when he was taken to the hospital for treatment. In this case, the police had initially told heart attack as the cause of death.
Five policemen are arrested in the investigation
After the death of Balwant Singh in police custody, the relatives and the local people created a lot of ruckus. After this, the investigation was started by registering a case of murder against five named and unknown policemen on the Tahrir of the family members. As the matter caught fire in the media, the echo of this matter reached Lucknow and the government also took cognizance of this matter.
A Special Investigative Team of Kannauj Police has been constituted to investigate the entire matter impartially. According to Kannauj Superintendent of Police Kunwar Anupam Singh, so far in the investigation, 5 policemen, including the then Shivli police station in-charge Rajesh Singh, have been arrested and sent to jail.
Government wants police rule: Akhilesh Yadav
The case of Balwant’s alleged murder in police custody is slowly gaining political momentum. While on one hand many people from the ruling party are meeting Balwant’s family members and assuring them of help, on the other hand Shalini Singh, wife of deceased Balwant, wrote a letter to Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav pleading for justice.
Taking cognizance of the matter, Akhilesh Yadav reached Lalpur Saraiya, the village of deceased Balwant. After meeting the family members, Akhilesh Yadav made a serious allegation on the working style of the police and said, “The police we expect will do justice, the police will help and if we ever get into trouble, we will seek our protection. But here Police itself took the life of Balwant Singh. Full responsibility lies with the police. Can anyone imagine in this civilized society where Balwant Singh was killed for more than 3 hours. Anyone who has seen his body or his picture will be scared that the police This can also be a face of the police. The face of the police has been made because of the government, the government wants police rule.”
