There have been reports of missing women in large numbers from Maharashtra. The figure (Maharashtra Women Missing Data) will surprise you. According to the information given by the state government in the Legislative Council on Thursday, on an average more than 80 women went missing every day in 2020 and 2021. In a written reply, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed that a total of 60,435 missing complaints (of women) were registered by the police in the state. Out of this, 23,157 women went missing in 2020 while 37,278 were reported missing in the year 2021.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that about 40,000 of the missing women have been found in two years. The search for the remaining 20,630 is on. It has not been given information that how many of the missing women were adults and how many were minor girls.
The state government informed the council members that anti-human trafficking cells have been constituted at various levels. A committee has also been formed to oversee the rehabilitation of women rescued from prostitution. Stopping the cases of trafficking of women is a big challenge before the administration.
SOPs have also been revised to trace missing children, while stricter rules have been made for the rescue and rehabilitation of those trapped in commercial prostitution. The Home Minister also informed that the guidelines of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights along with the Union Home Ministry are being sent to the police officers. Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis also told about a special website – www.trackthemissingchild.gov.in – which is an initiative of the Central Government. The Ministry of Women and Child Development oversees the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS).
