Mexican authorities recovered the car driven by an Ohio man who had been missing since December while visiting his fiancée in Mexico and located four bodies buried near the vehicle..
the vThe vehicle in which José Gutiérrez, a 36-year-old architect from the Cincinnati area, was last seen with three other people was discovered in the Mexican state of Zacatecas with bullet holes and flat tires, WLWT-TV reported.
In addition, the outlet reported that The Zacatecas state attorney general said four bodies were discovered buried near the vehicle and tests are being carried out to determine the identity of the persons.
Gutiérrez has been missing since Christmas Day along with his fiancée Viviana Pichardo, her sister, and her cousin, who all went to dinner that night. and have not been seen since.
Gutierrez was traveling to Mexico, a trip his family says he made often, to visit his fiancée for the holidays before their 2023 wedding date.
When the group of four did not return from the bar they went to on Christmas Day, WCPO-TV reported that Pichardo’s family contacted them and received a text message with an address in response.
When Pichardo’s mother went to that address, police stopped her and said the area was too dangerous to visit, and the four were never heard from again.
The US State Department currently has a “Do Not Travel” warning to Zacatecas “due to crime and kidnapping.”
Daniela Márquez’s sister, Viviana, and cousin Irma Vargas did not return to the Colotlán home as planned. “Violent crime, extortion, and gang activity are rampant in the state of Zacatecas,” the State Department website states.
