12 suspects arrested for human trafficking
Karachi. Over 300 Pakistanis are feared dead after a ferry carrying 750 passengers capsizes off the coast of Greece. A senior leader gave this information. Meanwhile, an official said that the Pakistan government, cracking down on human traffickers, has arrested at least 12 suspected people from different parts of the country.
When the boat capsized last week, it was carrying 400 Pakistanis, 200 Egyptians and 150 Syrians. Among them were Syrian women and children.
Pakistan Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani has expressed deep condolences over the death of over 300 Pakistanis in the recent boat accident off the coast of Greece. His office gave this information by tweeting.
He said that with a heavy heart, we express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. Our condolences and prayers are with you. We pray for the peace of the soul of the departed.
This devastating incident underscores the urgent need to combat and condemn the abhorrent act of human trafficking, he said. The incident highlighted the plight of Pakistanis trying to enter European countries illegally.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday ordered action against human traffickers. One day mourning has been declared in the country for the victims of this boat accident. A top official of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said they have arrested at least 12 suspected human traffickers since last Friday, including one who was trying to board a flight to Dubai from Karachi International Airport.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Alam Shinwari said these people were involved in trying to smuggle Pakistanis to Europe through West Asia and Africa and some of these accused were also involved in sending Pakistanis on the boat that sank in Greece Was.
