Police spokesperson Ehtsham Haider said, when the Sikh family came out of a shop, two robbers dressed in police uniform stopped them and looted cash and jewelery at gunpoint. Haider said that the robbers looted 2,50,000 Indian rupees and 1,50,000 Pakistani rupees from the Sikh family besides jewellery. After the incident, a large number of people gathered there and they reached the local police station along with the Sikh family. The local police station in-charge informed his senior officer about this incident.

Haider said an officer of the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police met the Indian Sikh family and assured them that the robbers would be arrested and their losses would be compensated. Acting Chief Minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi also took strong cognizance of the incident of looting of a Sikh family who was on pilgrimage and asked the Lahore Police Chief to immediately submit a report. Emphasizing on immediate identification of suspects from CCTV footage, Naqvi has directed for immediate arrest of the criminals involved in the robbery.
Naqvi said that any negligence in this case should be looked into and appropriate action should be taken against the police personnel responsible. He said that Sikh pilgrims are honored guests and ensuring their safety is the supreme responsibility. More than 2,500 Indian Sikhs are currently in Pakistan for the birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev.
