Berlin. Authorities evacuated hundreds of passengers from a train after a fire broke out in a tunnel in Austria on Wednesday evening. About 50 people received minor injuries in the incident, officials said. Local authorities said the night train with some 370 passengers was in a tunnel near Fritzzen, east of Innsbruck in the Tyrol region, when the fire broke out, the Austrian Press Agency (APA) reported.

Police said that about 50 passengers have suffered minor injuries or are feared to be in trouble due to the smoke. Railway operator OEBB said at 8:40 pm a fault in an overhead wire was reported and an automobile caught fire suddenly on a freight wagon belonging to the “Nightjet” train going from Innsbruck to Amsterdam.

OEBB said that with the help of 20 fire tenders, the fire was doused at 10.20 pm. Officials said that the passengers were taken out of the train at around 11 pm.
