New York. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in New York on Tuesday for his first state visit to the US. During this, he will lead the International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters and hold bilateral talks with US President Joe Biden in Washington.
Modi will visit the US from June 21-24 at the invitation of President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The US President will host him at a state dinner on 22 June. The visit also includes the Prime Minister’s address to a joint session of the US Congress (Parliament) on 22 June.
In a statement issued ahead of his visit, Modi said the “special invitation” from US President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden for the state visit shows how important and strong this partnership is between the two democracies.
“I will begin my visit from New York, where I will join the UN leadership and members of the international community to celebrate the International Day of Yoga on June 21 at the UN Headquarters,” he said. Looking forward to this special event in support of India’s December 2014 resolution on recognition.”

From New York, Modi will go to Washington DC where he will hold talks with President Biden. He said that he and President Biden have had the opportunity to meet several times since his last official visit to the US in September 2021.
Modi said his talks with President Biden and other senior US leaders will focus on bilateral cooperation as well as cooperation in multilateral fora like G-20, QUAD (Quadripartite Security Dialogue) and IPEF (Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity).
