MADRID, 19 Jan. (.) –
The pro-Russian authorities of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic have assured this Wednesday that the Ukrainian city of Soledar would have been defended by foreign battalions allied with Ukraine.
According to the Donetsk Armed Forces, the Ukrainian Army would be organizing units fully manned by foreigners, instead of mixed units, due to the loss of troops.
“The idea of the West now is to supply already well-coordinated bands of mercenaries, from soldiers to officers (…) In Soledar there were no longer just a couple of vans with mercenaries, but there were companies and battalions made up entirely of foreigners,” he said. a spokesman for the pro-Russian troops told the TASS agency.
The city of Soledar, in the east of the country, has been occupied by the Russian Army at the end of last week, after several days of intense fighting in which both Russia and Ukraine have offered contradictory versions, without making it clear who controlled the entire town.
The Wagner Group, an alliance of mercenaries related to the Kremlin, had already taken Soledar for granted a few days ago, but Moscow had been more cautious and kyiv had directly denied the loss of the town, where satellite images already show the effects of the destruction.
