Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the appointment of former journalist Najam Sethi as the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the removal of Ramiz Raja, Geo News reported on Wednesday, quoting sources.
Geo News reported that the Prime Minister’s Office will issue four notifications related to this appointment. The first notification will pertain to the abolition of the 2019 PCB constitution. The second notification will notify the abolition of the two names nominated for the post of chairman under the 2019 constitution. The third notification will announce the restoration of the 2014 constitution, while the fourth notification will deal with the “set up” to run the board.
Reports of Raja’s ouster as chairman had cropped up in the past, although he denied these reports, saying he was “not going anywhere”. When news of Raja’s ouster broke, he called the PCB staff to inform them that he had received the “green signal” from the government to continue.

Raja had told the PCB employees, “I have been asked to continue working as PCB chairman.” Was elected unopposed as PCB chairman. The top post of PCB had fallen vacant after the completion of Ehsan Mani’s three-year term.
Earlier there was speculation that a group led by former board members had started a campaign to oust Ramiz from the post of PCB chairman. This group claimed that something was going on behind the scenes. The country’s Law Ministry had met the Prime Minister, the patron of the board, for changes in the PCB.
A PCB source had said, “Yes, something is going on. Rumors abound that Najam Sethi recently met the Prime Minister at a function in Lahore. In such a situation, Ramiz can be removed from the post.
Ramiz is the PCB chairman since September 2021 and was nominated by former Prime Minister Imran Khan. When Imran’s party won a majority of seats in the 2018 general elections, Najam Sethi resigned as PCB chairman.
