Islamabad. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the seeds of violence on May 9 were sown by social media; Social media networks can be further curbed if needed. Asif had told ‘Geo News’ on Tuesday that countries like US, UK and China all regulate social networks.

He said, “Rules and regulations are a framework, it is monitored. In our country social media is used to incite people to rebel against the state. The script for the May 9 violence was prepared through social media. Significantly, to prevent riots that broke out after the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, the government had stopped internet access across the country and blocked social media networks for several days. .

Referring to the action being taken against the perpetrators of the May 9 violence, Asif said that after the Army announced action against its personnel and their family members, it was the duty of the government to ensure that the perpetrators of the riots were killed. Fix the accountability of the criminals behind. He said that these obstacles can be removed.

He lauded the ‘swift response’ by the Army, but said the civilian authorities faced several challenges and hurdles. “The law to prosecute civilians under the Military Act has been challenged in various courts, the Supreme Court is also hearing the arguments,” he said.
