Mogadishu. At least 27 children were killed and 53 others injured on Friday when an old munition exploded at a playground near the town of Koryoli in Somalia. Local authorities have confirmed the incident.
Koryoli city’s Deputy District Commissioner Abdi Ahmed Ali said the incident was caused by the explosion of explosive debris such as bombs and landmines. He told that during this time children playing in the village ground came under the grip of explosion. At least 27 people have died and 53 others have been injured in the incident, Somalia news agency Sonna reported.
The commissioner told over phone that 22 bodies were found in Koryoli Hospital while two injured died after being taken to the hospital. He said another child died on the way to hospital in the capital Mogadishu. He told that the age of the children is between 10 and 15 years.
