South Korea’s foreign ministry on Friday summoned China’s ambassador to protest his comments on Seoul leaning towards the US and distancing itself from China as the US and China compete for global influence. was accused of. The Chinese ambassador made the remarks in a conversation with a leader of the South Korean opposition. The ministry accused Shing of breaking diplomatic protocol and interfering in South Korea’s domestic politics but did not mention the part of Shing’s remarks that it considered inappropriate. The ministry also did not share Shing’s statement in its reply to Chang.
In a meeting on Thursday with Lee Jae-myung, leader of South Korea’s Democratic Party, Shing accused Yoon Suk-yeol’s government of being too pro-US and damaging ties with China, its biggest trading partner. Lee is considered a staunch opponent of Conservative leader Yoon.
