The famous Super Meat Boy returns in a spin-off game that will put your gray cells to the test.
For his next game, Super Meatboy still plays the card of paying homage to legendary video game franchises. The new spin-off Dr. Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine unveiled by Team Meat, has a release date. Its name will bring back many memories to experienced players, as will its gameplay. In a short, but intense trailer, we can see that the new game adapts Puyo-Puyo with a much more modern look and above all characteristic of Super Meat Boy.
In a very arcade style, you must succeed in aligning at least four elements of the same color to obtain points, achieve combos and erase them from the playing field. This is not because it is a spin off that the studio skips on the legendary difficulty of the franchise. Dr. Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine is just as ruthless as its congeners and that’s good.
It goes without saying that the title is also largely inspired by Dr. Robotnik Mean Bean Machineeven in the name of the game. A puzzle game and fast thinking is not necessarily what we expected from the license, especially after the last Super Meat Boy Foreverbut it’s still good to take especially given the quality of the title.
An imminent release date
The developers announce that there will be a hundred levels available, each one more hardcore than the other. These have all been hand-built and will feature several traps and power-ups to spice up the game. Dr. Fetus Mean Meat Machine arrives this month, next June 22, on all possible platforms : PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC (GoG, Steam, Epic Games). The only ones missing are mobile platforms, which would have been very appropriate for this style of play.
Availability on iOS and Android is not to be ruled out for the moment, we should have more information on this subject in the coming weeks. On our side, we would not be surprised to see it land on Netflix because the firm always knows how to find the right partnerships and it is an excellent way for it to secure an illustrious franchise while continuing to ensure a quality service on its platform.
