A viral video of Tesla Model Y electric car losing control on a busy road has gone viral on social media. The incident reportedly took place in China’s southern province of Guangdong. Reports suggest that the Model Y started malfunctioning after the driver tried to park, the EV’s parking button didn’t work, instead it started accelerating and the brakes reportedly stopped working . The incident is of November 5 and two people are reported to have been killed in it.
In the CCTV footage captured from the spot, the car can be seen slowing down for parking, then suddenly picking up speed and going on the road. The car can be seen nearly hitting several pedestrians and vehicles before hitting the cyclist and crashing into the three-wheeler and building. According to the information, a bike rider and a high school student died in the accident.
The driver has alleged that the Model Y’s brakes were not working at that time and that the Chinese police is investigating the matter. Meanwhile, according to a Reuters report, Tesla claims that its data shows that no brake input was recorded during the crash. The police is currently seeking a third party assessment of the accident and the matter is under investigation.
