The Summer Game Fest is officially open. His first evening had some major surprises in store for us. Recap of 5 games to watch.
Tonight was the opening ceremony of the Summer Game Fest. As usual, and even more so this year in the absence of E3, the evening had many surprises in store for us from video game publishers, who unveiled incredible titles. If you haven’t seen the whole show – which lasted a good two hours – here are the 5 announcements you shouldn’t miss. For the rest of the announcements, you will have to follow the conferences of each publisher (see the schedule) to learn more about upcoming games and updates.
Spider Man 2
This is one of the surprises of this opening night. Spider Man 2 made an appearance just as we had just heard from him. No new trailer for today, and we are happy to be satisfied with that of the PlayStation Showcase which took place a few days ago. On the other hand, the developers announce to us (finally) the release date of the adventure game, fixed to October 20. It’s a miracle that Geoff Keighley was able to have the exclusivity on this information even though the game was shown by his parent company a few days before.
Mortal Kombat 1
The next installment of the franchise mortal kombat will start from scratch. The developers are making a 180° turn and are offering us this evening a long edited gameplay sequence. We were able to see portions of the fight, the introductory cutscenes to the fight and even some bloody fatalities. The modernity of the title means that the animations are always more immersive and precise. We also got to see iconic characters such as Scorpion and Sub Zero, who are now on the same side. We learned that the master of martial arts, Jean Claude Van Damme, will do the voice of Johnny Cage
Lies of P
The world of Souls-Like will soon be entitled to a new entry. The game Lies of P, inspired by the tale of Pinocchio but set in a fictional France, has unveiled a promising brand new trailer. The dark atmosphere of the game is still there, as it finds a release date, set for September 19. The studio informed us that a demo is already available.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
A few years after the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS5, the sequel has just gotten a new trailer and a release window. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will continue the adventures of Cloud and his band in more than modern conditions, from the beginning of 2024. In the meantime, Square Enix is preparing the arrival of Final Fantasy XVI for June 22.
Sonic Superstars
If you didn’t like Sonic Frontiers, SEGA wants you to give the franchise a chance. The little blue hedgehog is coming back soon in an unexpected brand new game, which goes back to the origins of the license. Sonic Superstars promises to be modern, incredibly fun, but also very nostalgic with its 2D levels reminiscent of the first games. The game will be released in the fall of 2023, with no specific date yet.
And many others…
In addition to these 5 games, we were treated to news of many new features, some of which we mentioned, such as Lysfanga. On the indie games side, we’re mostly looking forward to getting our hands on Under The Waves, Banishers Ghosts of New Eden or Yes, Your Grace Snowfall.
