Expected in a few days on HBO Max, the series The Last of Us is collecting its first opinions. Bet won for HBO and Naughty Dog?
While it is expected within 5 short days across the Atlantic, the series The Last of Us begins to collect its first criticisms. Many American media have indeed been able to get their hands on the episodes of season 1 in advance and are now giving us their opinions, which are rather rave reviews. Is the adaptation of the eponymous video game a success?
Zombies but mostly humans
When released as a video game, The Last of Us conquered critics thanks to its touching story, its endearing characters, all in the middle of a post-apocalyptic world eaten away by a strange infection. A clever mix of genres that has earned Naughty Dog numerous awards. The HBO-ordered series seems to be heading down the same path, with plenty of critics indulging in the highest praise.
The Hollywood Reporter regrets a slight problem of rhythm but declares all the same that “The Last of Us could have achieved greater depth in its commentary on the way we live now, beyond what is a heartfelt but superficial take on the dark and light of human nature..” At the house of variety also we salute the human representation through the duo Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) which takes over the zombie intrigue:
“There is clearly something seductive about depicting the end of the world, especially if it does not depend on man. The people who live in The Last of Us are, in a sense, beyond reproach. […] The sensibility and relationships of The Last of Us are spot on.”
Critics of the specialized media follow one another and look alike: 9/10 at IGN“a more than solid adaptation” at the house of The Verge or “a phenomenal season” at the house of Gizmodo. It only remains to see if this trend is confirmed in France as well, which is not an easy task.
Where to watch The Last of Us in France?
On December 31, the contract between HBO and OCS ended, impacting the availability of many HBO series such as His Dark Materials, Game of Thrones or Westworld. For the moment, no French platform has announced that it wants to resume the distribution of HBO content until the firm launches its own HBO Max service in our countries, and the takeover of OCS by Canal + will not change anything.
The release date set for January 15 is therefore only for the United States for now, although it is officially known that The Last of Us will indeed arrive in France “soon”.
