The Titan submersible imploded on its descent toward the Titanic, killing all five occupants, according to a US Coast Guard report. Behind this tragedy, there are several stories, such as that of Suleman, a 19-year-old college student accompanying his father on the expedition.
According to testimonies released by NBC News, Azmeh Dawood, the older sister of Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and father of the minor, the young man expressed his doubts about going, although he ended up aboard OceanGate’s 22-foot submersible because the trip fell over Father’s Day weekend and he was anxious to oblige.
The woman explained that the young man said He was “not very prepared” and “terrified” about the trip to explore the wreckage of the Titanic.
Despite this, on June 18 the trip was carried out, but one hour and 45 minutes after submerging in the sea, the crew of the Titan submarine, belonging to the OceanGate company, lost contact with the base that was monitoring their trip. , as reported by the United States Coast Guard.
The capsule was submerged with the aim of reaching the remains of the Titanic, the legendary ship that lies on the sea floor at about 3,800 meters deep, that was the last time the crew was heard from.
“I’m thinking of Suleman, who was 19 years old… It’s been paralyzing, to be honest,” Azmeh said in a phone interview from her home in Amsterdam.
“I am in disbelief,” Azmeh said, speaking between sobs. “It’s an unreal situation.”
In that same sense, Azmeh recalled the intense love she felt for Shahzada, “He was my little brother,” she said crying, apparently overwhelmed with emotion. “I held him when he was born.”
Shahzada Dawood was a vice president at Engro Corporation, a prestigious Pakistani energy and technology company.. He was also on the Global Board of Prince’s Trust International, a charity backed by King Charles III.
