Washington: Indian-origin man Rajinder Pal Singh, a 49-year-old Uber driver, has been sentenced to three years in prison for illegally allowing more than 800 Indians to enter the US. According to the US Department of Justice, Singh, a resident of California, confessed to his crime in February. Along with this, he also confessed that he made a profit of more than half a million dollars in the name of getting people to enter America illegally.
800 Indians illegally entered America in four years
According to the Hindustan Times report, Acting US Attorney Tessa Gorman said that in Rajinder Singh’s sentence, he has received a 45-month prison sentence for conspiracy to provide transport and stay to some Indians for profit and money laundering conspiracy. Within about four years, convict Rajinder Singh smuggled more than 800 people across the northern border from Canada to Washington state. Due to this, the security of the state was in danger for America and the lives of people coming illegally were also in danger.
Rajinder used Uber cab to take him from Canada to America
According to the case filed against Rajinder Singh and his associates, from July 2018 to May 2022, they used Uber cabs to transport people who crossed the border illegally from Canada to the Seattle area of the US. Rajinder and his associates used to take people out early in the morning to bring them to America illegally. In these four years, Rajinder Singh arranged more than 600 trips related to the transport of Indian citizens.
Police seized 45 thousand US dollars
When the officers investigating the case reached Rajinder Singh’s residence, they found US$45,000 in counterfeit and several fake documents. US Customs and Border Protection has reported a sharp increase in the number of people caught illegally crossing the border from Canada into the United States over the past six months.
