The youngest of the franchise will be really… Small. Regulars of gigantic worlds will be shaken.
Ubisoft had already warned us: Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be a homecoming for the franchise. Who says retro inspiration says discount world scale and it is not frankly to displease us. Wanting to become ever more massive, open worlds get lost in an ocean of emptiness too often filled with anecdotal content. Never mind, the next chapter in the cult franchise shouldn’t suffer from this problem.
By changing the specifications of this episode, Ubisoft could well offer us one of the best parts since Assassin’s Creed III And IV. But before jumping on our high horses, the game will have to prove itself controllers in hand. As a reminder, this episode for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series as well as the PC will make its debut next October 12.
In the meantime, details about this new adventure continue to appear drop by drop. During an interview with the members of the American podcast Easy Alliesa representative of Ubisoft has finally opened up about the dimensions of the famous reduced card.
The standards of the 2010s
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will take place in the heart of Baghdad, an oriental setting that is reminiscent of the atmosphere of the very first title in the franchise. This comparison is entirely voluntary and allows the developers to infuse the game’s original DNA into this latest installment. Mirage will not only borrow from the genesis ofAssassin’s Creed but also in the following chapters. If we are to believe the words of the studio reported by the videographers, the card of the youngest will have a similar dimension to the Paris of Unity and in Constantinople Revelations.
After Origins, Odyssey And Valhalla, in other words, this change may surprise more than one player. This decision is not an easy choice: it’s a way to refocus the gameplay. According to the trilogy with vast expanses where ax fights replace infiltration, it will now be necessary to play it discreetly to progress in the adventure. The RPG dimension highlighted in recent years therefore leaves room for the stealth mechanics of the original episodes. Fighting is no longer an option, it’s a last resort.
These premises are mouth-watering, but will not be to the liking of all gamers. So what about the future of the franchise? With no less than five different titles in the works, all linked by a future hub system titled Assassin’s Creed Infinity, future episodes should all have their own identity. It’s a safe bet that the next-gen recipe explored in the last three titles will make a comeback, while some episodes will go back to basics just as they plan to do. Mirage.
We will have to take our troubles patiently before we know for sure: none of these projects have a release date and they could take years to see the light of day. Case to follow.
