Ladakh. People of Gilgit Baltistan, the northernmost region of Pakistan, have taken to the streets. The people of Gilgit-Baltistan raised the demand to join India and are protesting against the policies of Pakistan. For the last few days, these people have been protesting against Pakistan and demanding to be merged with India’s Union Territory of Ladakh.
In fact, the people of this area, troubled by inflation and unemployment, are fed up with the discriminatory policies of the Government of Pakistan and are now opposing joining hands with India. People say that for decades the governments of Pakistan discriminated against them and exploited their territory.
Often the people of Gilgit Baltistan protest state-supported exclusion and corruption in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and reiterate their demands for the civilian government to address their issues.
Be aware that Pakistan Occupied Kashmir or PoK is that part of Jammu and Kashmir which was occupied by Pakistan in the 1947 war. In Pakistan it is called Azad Kashmir. There is a separate government here but its administration is run by the Government of Pakistan.
