The authorities reported that A sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man in southwest Wisconsin after the subject drove away from a traffic stop with a deputy dangling from the vehicle.
The incident occurred Friday night after deputies from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office were sent to a residence in Genoa for a welfare checksaid the Criminal Investigation Division of the Wisconsin Department of Justice in a statement quoted by NBC.
When officers arrived, a man was coming out of the house. The officers made a traffic stop, but the man began to speed away with an officer hanging from the side of the vehicleaccording to the authorities.
Then, an officer shot the man, who was pronounced dead at the scenethe department reported.
It was not immediately clear if the officer being dragged away was also the officer who shot the man.
No officers were injured in the incident, said DCI, which handles investigations of critical incidents involving officers.
The officer who shot the man was assigned to administrative duty., in accordance with department policy. Once the DCI completes its investigation, its findings will be forwarded to the Vernon County District Attorney.
Genoa is located about 100 miles northwest of Madison, near the Minnesota border.
